I am not fond of Edge. It is nowhere near as configurable as I like in a browser. But, since Waterfox has diverged away from their original intent in browsers and I use Firefox now as my primary browser, I needed another for a backup browser and for testing sites that have issues in Firefox. Hence Edge, which I have installed by default like it or not.

What prompted me to dive in to Edge is that Facebook has developed a strange issue in Firefox 91 ESR for me. I’ll scroll a few pages in the newsfeed – 6, 8 – unsure – and then the pages start jumping ahead with a brief flash of each post it is skipping ahead of. VERY odd.

Edge does not do this. BUT, I have Edge issues which are the core of this question.

I use MSN as my home page. Many years ago I configured it for “just how I like it” and I log in automatically each time it opens in Firefox.

Edge will not allow me to log in automatically to my Microsoft account, and worse, if I login, then click a link and return to MSN home, I am logged OUT again. And, my picture from my Microsoft account never appears in Edge on MSN and is always there in Firefox. So its like I am not truly logged in. But is shows the proper account.

And, when I am logged in on Edge to MSN, it is NOT my customized page, but a canned layout that cannot be changed.

Enough detail for the opener. Any ideas how to get my login to stick and my customized layout?

    Thanks.

Forgot to mention I was going to post at the Edge support forums, but they require giving them persmission to ill defined personal information at my Microsoft Account to join their forums. I declined and popped over here.

Check that Edge, Settings, Cookies and site permissions, Manage and delete cookies and site data, Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended) is switched on.

Thanks B. It is on indeed.

      Thanks b. Gets weirder!

Cleared cookies, etc. Opened MSN and was logged in with my layout. Just missing my picture. Went to another link in MSN and NOT logged in. Returned and logged in still on MSN home page.

Closed EDGE. Opened to home page and not logged in.

FWIW, only one device on my Microsoft account. All still works perfectly in Firefox and Waterfox.

      Would appreciate more ideas.

Closed EDGE. Opened to home page and not logged in.

Is Edge set to clear cookies on exit at Settings, Privacy/search and services, Clear browsing data, Choose what to clear every time you close the browser, Cookies and other site data? If you click on that setting you can add MSN.com as a “Don’t clear” exception.

      Thanks.

It is set not to clear and I added msn.com, http://www.msn.com and microsoft.com. Same issue. So to summarize.

      • Open Edge to msn. Not signed in.
      • Sign in, all fine except account picture missing
      • Click any link and the next page shows not signed in
      • Close Edge, reopen, not signed in
      • Delete MSN cookies, start over….

Set not to clear. Set msn and microsoft as exceptions.

Gotta run. Back late afternoon EST.

Are you using the released version of Edge or one of the Dev channel or Canary channel versions?

      Hi Joe,

Version as installed by Windows 10 and updated by Microsoft all too often 🙂

since Waterfox has diverged away from their original intent in browsers

This sounds worrisome. How has Waterfox diverged away from their original intent?

No longer supporting Classic ahick was the most configurable browser ever and supported textensions that are not available for the new “G” browsers at Waterfox. And no comparable replacements.

In my opinion, Alex sold out to a data mining company, fired the best support people I ever knew (Graham) and has a team of developers that do not reply to questions and are making a browswer clone of Firefox and others. Incredibly disappointing. Your interpretation of events may vary. I am convinced that “the people’s browser” has become the corporate data miner.

And, Classic no longer can open Linked In, cannot type in a text box on Facebook and hangs on scripts on Google Analytics pages and MSN. Just for a few examples.

      Issue fixed.

Needed to enable third party cookies. Not sure it makes sense, but it worked.

Image does not show in Win 10 settings, maps, weather so will research to se if I can fix that. But the bigger issues for Edge are fixed. Need to find a site with recommended Edge settings as there are a ton of them.

      Thanks.
