I run W2K and under the folder there are a bunch of files that have strange names like C7ULIDW7 etc. They appear to contain a lot of web stuff and they each take about a meg or so on my hard drive. That is not a problem. I clean up my hard drive about once a month and would like to know what these files are and if I can get rid of them. It is unclear to me what they do, except that they appear related to Internet stuff. Any insight that anyone can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks. smile smile smile

These are the internet temp files for the user account listed in the path. Each account has their OWN temp files. These can be deleted by the user or andone with ADMIN rights.

Those are the “Internet cache” — AKA “Temporary Internet Files” or “the TIF”. They are temporarily cached information used by Internet Explorer. This enables IE to display a web page to you much faster — while it checks for an updated version of the page.

You can have IE clean these for you by selecting Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab | Empty TIF folder when browser is closed. It is NOT 100% effective, but it is generally considered “good enough”.
