Both in 365 versions of Word and Excel ‘recent documents’ is set to the default ’50’ yet they do not show. Have I tampered unwittingly with another setting elsewere which needs attention?

If you’ve ever used “Clear unpinned Documents/Workbooks” after right-clicking a Recent file at File, Open; then only new files that you open and save from then on would appear:

Customize the list of recently used files

(Also if you ever set the option to 0.)
