I can move a style that I have created into the Quick Styles Gallery (shown on the ribbon). But my new style gets buried down on the third or fourth row so that it is not visible without first opening the Quick Styles Gallery with the ‘down arrow’.

Is there a way to move items around in the Quick Styles Gallery? I have tried the intutive select-and-drag method but that does not work.

    Thanks for any suggestions. Dan..

I had the same problem and solved it by deleting all the styles I didn’t use from the Quick Styles Gallery

I thought of deleting unused ones, too, but was confident there was a more elegent solution. I notice that when I right-click a sytle in the Styles Box (a style that also appears in the Quick Styles Gallery), it has a ‘Priority: xx’ on the last line. These priorities might be used to set the order of styles in the Quick Styles Gallery. Any idea how to access these priorities?

I don’t have Word 2007 myself, but in Word 2007: how do I customize sort order of Quick Styles gallery? I found “The priority value of the styles is set in the Recommend tab of the Manage Styles dialog box”.

Thanks Hans! That is exactly where the priority is set. You have made my work much easier. I deleted the top numbered styles and promoted my styles to 4-10.

Just a footnote on this topic: The ability to order the priority of display of styles is a great improvement over earlier Word versions. It affects not just the display in the Quick Styles area, but also in the Styles pane.

An example of the usefulness of this: in earlier versions of Word, in creating custom templates it was a common practice to put custom menus on a toolbar to provide users with quick and organized access to frequently-applied styles.

With the ability to order styles in the Quick Styles area and the Styles pane in Word 2007, you can often avoid the need for a custom menu (or Ribbon customization) for applying styles.
