I am new to the lounge, I have searched to see if any previous threads on this topic but couldn’t find any.

We are running Exchange Server on SBS 2003 and I have a user that in error deleted a folder from her Outlook – is there any way to
retrieve this? I appreciate any help.

    Thank you,
    Rosie

      Welcome to the Lounge.

Do your users have .pst files, .ost files (cached Exchange), or e-mail strictly on Exchange?

Has the user checked their Deleted Items?

Are there any retention settings on Exchange?

Try opening the deleted items folder, then selecting Tools > Recover Deleted Items.

      Paul,
Thank you so much, that worked!
      Sometimes it’s something so simple!

Sorry for activating this old thread, but I’m running out of options for a secretary at my office.

She has a folder under Inbox, which in turn had another (say, F2). F2 had 2 other folders inside, all with many messages, back to January of this year. She accidentally deleted F2 using right-click + delete, but it didn’t went to the Deleted Items. We tried Recover Deleted Items, but only shows messages that go back a couple of months; nothing I check show the folders.

This is Outlook 2010 using Exchange for company comunications.

So, is there a “secret” to fix this?

With Exchange 2010 from what I can find you can’t recover a folder only items.

Hmmm, I understand. But what about Recover only bringing messages from 2 months back.

That depends on your retention settings.

Assuming you have a daily / weekly backup you can use my favourite tool and recover the entire directory.
Buy (yes, buy) Kroll Ontrack Exchange and Sharepoint Recovery, fire up the Exchange server emulator, restore the data and recover the directories.

      cheers, Paul

Also take a look at Shadow Protect GRE. Will allow you to mount your backed-up Exchange database and recover anything from the entire database down to a single message entry.

Not cheap, but a lifesaver when handling Exchange mailboxes.
