Does anyone know if you have apps and Safari extensions to automatically update if that would cause Safari for Mac to periodically launch itself? Mine continues to periodically launch itself out of nowhere.

I do have apps and Safari extensions set to auto-update.

I’m trying to discern if this is the cause or if my Mac is possessed.

        Thanks!

Thanks. That setting is disabled, and it still occurs.

Found out the culprit. It has to do with App Store Extensions automatically updating themselves, therefore causing Safari to automatically launch with each update. It’s occurring on both of my Macs when auto-updates are enabled. I sent in feedback to Apple to address this in a future update, as it is disturbing to have two Macs act possessed. 🙂

Safari hasn’t launched itself on my Macs in a couple of days. I did submit feedback to Apple concerning this a while back.

Also strangely, the issue seemed to stop after I changed out the power supply to my “modem” (which is actually a point to point wireless radio since that’s how my Internet works). The previous power supply wasn’t giving my “modem” enough power.

So one of two things occurred:

        • Apple did something server-side with the Mac App Store which resolved the issue.
        • My “modem’s” intermittent power was triggering Safari auto launches, and it no longer is.

Hopefully it’s resolved permanently. We’ll see!
