My partner’s 1 year old Samsung Galaxy A72 suddenly switched and stuck to Airplane mode while she was on a bus to a meeting.
With no cellular connection she couldn’t notify me or the person she supposed to meet that her cellular connection just died.
She had to ask a passenger to text me about her problem.
When she was back we went to nearby cellular shop to check the smartphone. They said that its a known issue and nothing can be done and we need to buy a new smartphone.

(Google has 9M posts regarding this bug)

I ran all steps advised on the internet : hard reset, network reset, safe mode… to no avail.

This morning we went to the shop were we bought the Galaxy.
The owner said it a hardware part that died.
It took him 5 min to open the device and replace the antenna part and bring back cellular connection to life.

    * I use iPhone (and iPad) devices since iPhone 4 to current iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Never have I encountered hardware failure, OS failure, cracked screen, dead/bulging batteries, devices on fire..in all these years.

    * I run OS beta versions (previously dev versions) for years.

I understand how inconvenient that was for your partner. In different circumstances it could even have been dangerous.

I don’t understand why such an obviously well-known fault is not subject to a phone recall by Samsung if there’s a hardware fix?

I don’t understand why no one (at least I haven’t read about) asking about the bug has been advised to replace the antenna hardware part.

Perhaps that’s a less well known ‘bug’ fix.

There is no other fix. its not OS/Software bug.
