Hi, as I was dealing with the DNS issue, thanks to NetDef for providing feedback on their experiences with successfully updating 2016 & love / agree with the commentary, and doing my research before applying patches early (normally wait till the very end of the month), I came across the below:

IMPORTANT Windows 10, version 1607 has reached the end of mainstream support and is now in extended support. Starting in July 2020, there will no longer be optional, non-security releases (known as “C” releases) for this operating system. Operating systems in extended support have only cumulative monthly security updates (known as the “B” or Update Tuesday release).  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4565511/windows-10-update-kb4565511

Hopefully my interpretation is that I’ll no longer have to go through two sets of updates (or more) at the end of the month (yes I realize that is my choice, somewhat, don’t use WSUS, small org., and prefer to have a clean slate before next months updates come along).

Thought I pass the good news along.

    Take care,

P.S.  No issues on installing July’s patches on the DNS server.

      Interesting
should not the mainstream support ends after 5 years? i.e. October 12, 2021?
or they want to get v1607 off their shoulders sooner

maybe the latter, abbodi86. the recent CUs for v1607, LTSB 2016 & Server 2016 are about 1.5Gb in size for x64 and 850Mb in size for x86, taking a lot longer to install compared to the recent CUs for Win10 versions from 1809 to 2004 which don’t take so long to install.

guess MS wants to reduce the support for older Windows versions since MS is planning to release Win10X next year in 2021.
