I am running Windows 10 Pro Version 1803 (OS build 17134.950) Installed 5-31-19 on a 17″ Dell Laptop (Inspiron 17 5000 Series) with an Intel Core i7 8th Gen

Can I update to Version 1809 or 1903 via Windows update?

Why has it not tried to do that yet?

Should I update to Version 1809?

Or, should I go all the way to Version 1903?

Unless there is something about your specific configuration which causes an upgrade block, Windows Update will give you 1903.

Why has it not tried to do that yet?
Depends on what your settings are.

Should I update to Version 1809?

Or, should I go all the way to Version 1903?
      I would go to 1903.

Or wait a while longer until the bugs are ironed out of 1903.

Either way, make sure you have an image backup before you upgrade.

I am currently running Windows 10 Home Version 10.0.17134. Somehow, the Windows 10 version 1903 was downloaded, but then I set up my computer to be metered and active between the hours of 5:00am and 10:00pm. Since I am on the computer only between 9:00am — 4:00pm, the system never gets a chance to install the new version. So I have been  able to put off installing version 1903.

I had posted in September and a reply stated that I should just wait until the end of October to install, which I originally planned to do.

Question #1:  Is there any downside to waiting to install  the new version until October?

Question #2: My ESET security suite informs me that I have 2 critical updates (KB4516115 AND KB4023814) and 2 recommended updates (net frame KB4486153 and Windows 10 update version 1903). ESET will not let me do specific updates. If I click to update, it will update all the files. Therefore, I am not going to do the update since I do not want version 1903 yet, but I am concerned that the other 3 KB files need to be installed. Is there a problem with me NOT installing the KB updates?

Waiting to update may delay other critical updates.

Make an image backup to an external disk.
        Install 1903.
Install any other updates required – maybe not September updates.

If it all goes pear shaped then you can restore your backup.

        cheers, Paul
