I prefer currency backed by the government and avoid cryptocurrency (and Paypal).

What’s wrong with PayPal? I  use it frequently for payments. I do not receive payments using PayPal. So I don’t use their merchant services.

Read PayPal “Regulation” as well as “Safety and protection policies” here:

This is one of the things utopians that think governments and their “fiat money” are a bane on humanity dream of, but that rarely, if ever, work out, as when put in practice often fail and fail badly, leaving considerable wreckage behind. As it now seems to be so very often the case with crypto.
And I agree: it is a con game, because is based on promises, makes money for the ones that make them, then leaves the marks high and dry when, entirely predictably to those who made the promises, frenzied speculation wipes out the unsecured crypto.

And I agree with Primak: there is nothing the matter with making payments using PaPal (or with Patreon, either). The one issue common to online transactions is that one has to open an account on line with the merchant, PayPal in this case, that could, if the PayPal site is compromised, result in the theft of one’s identity. But such are the times with live in, and live in them we must.

Yet other disadvantage to Patreon, in the UK at least, is that it has to charge Value Added Tax (currently 20%) on each contribution – which amount goes to the Government for no good reason!
