I’m a Windows 10 Pro (1903. Build 18362.239) x64 user on a HP desktop. I had an error message appear during a soft reboot of my computer earlier today.  I wasn’t able to get it written down in time, but went something like this:  <em class=”_7s4syPYtk5hfUIjySXcRE”>svchost.exe The system detected an overrun of a stack based buffer in this application. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of the application.

I tried a few more soft reboots and it thankfully hasn’t popped up again.  Is there anything else I should do other than run an antivirus and anti-malware scans?

Why did you restart the computer? Were you having a problem with one of the programs?
What programs were running on your computer before you restarted it?

I had just finished running Emsisoft Emergency Kit before I rebooted so I could run Eset Online Scanner without any potential conflicts.  I didn’t have any problems, I was just being thorough during my annual computer scan.

Maybe it hadn’t finished shutting down when you rebooted? If it happens again, come back and we’ll dig further. Otherwise, I wouldn’t worry about it.

I think you’re right, as I haven’t had the issue happen again.  Thanks again for your help!

Event Viewer may have details of the error.
If you can’t get on with Event Viewer, try Nirsoft FullEventLogView.

        cheers, Paul
