Greetings: After taking all the usual backup precautions before the upgrade, I had what I believed to be an extremely good upgrade experience. All apps, data and the desktop came back up perfectly.

However, I now have a situation where I hear a constant “on” alert followed immediately by an “off” alert. I checked notification settings, switched off a couple to no effect. I then thought to check the “Show hidden icons” panel next to the system tray and, sure enough, an icon popped up there when the “on” alert sounded, then disapppeared immediately with the “off” chime.

The action is so fast I had to video it, then take a screen shot to isolate the icon that appeared, so apologies for the quality.

If anyone can ID this icon for me and/or suggest a way to silence it, I would be most appreciative.

Could my problem be associated with the fact that, as this Belarc check shows, two updates that have caused significant problems have NOT been installed on my machine?

Have you tried Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates?

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!
We were all once "Average Users". We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems, we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things.

Thanks, but I’m reluctant to install the two missing updates either via “check for updates” or the Windows Catalog, as they are on record as having caused many users substantial problems. I would only do so if it seemed no one could think of any other way to address my irritating “pop-on, pop-off” problem. But it does seem as though Microsoft has updated KB5030219 and KB5031217, so maybe I’ll have to go down that path.

The really annoying part is that the upgrade from Win10 to Win11 is working totally fine apart from that.
