Sync desktop between win 10 and win 11

I just built a new windows 11 pc, running 22H2. On the same network, I still have my windows 10 machine.’

On the windows 11 machine, I have disabled Onedrive. I created a Desktop folder in c:\windows\users\myname.

I used Synctoy to sync the desktop folder on the win 10 machine with the desktop folder on the win 11 machine. I can see all the shortcuts that copied over in the desktop folder on the win 11 machine.

However, none of the shortcut/icons show in the desktop. Is there something more that I need to do to make that happen?

There doesn’t seem to be a way to delete my post, so here is an update.

I opened the desktop folder in explorer and dragged and dropped all the folders/shortcuts in it to the desktop itself. They now all show on the desktop. However, when I look at the properties of any of them, the path is c:\users\myname\onedrive\desktop.

So, now I know why they were not showing. The desktop “view” seems to be linked to onedrive. I have disabled onedrive, then uninstalled it. However, if I delete the onedrive\desktop folder, I will lose all the items on the desktop.

Is there a way to have win11 look in c:\users\myname\desktop to populate the desktop and not look in to the onedrive folder?

Several items on my desktop are located in C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop. Try that. Also, when I create a shortcut in C:\Users\Myname\Desktop it appears immediately on the desktop. If you right-click on the default Desktop folder located on your PC in File Explorer, you can change the location to where you created the folder.
