Synchronize a CD

In working with Windows 2000 or Windows 98SE, when I insert, movie and sounds, play a CD track, then set the tracks, and then do the custom automation setting to order and timing (automatic) and Multimedia Settings to (While playing continue slide show and Stop playing after 5 slides) and I have the CD in the CD player, my timings under my track numbers cannot be changed–they stay at 00:00. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing? Thanks
