    Hey Y’all,

Has anyone out there with a Synology NAS updated to DSM V7?

I just updated to DSM V6.4.2-25556 today and noticed the offer of DSM V7 on the screen.

If you’ve updated how was the update experience and how is the NAS performing since the upgrade?

    Did you encounter any problems?

    Would you recommend the update?

    Thanks!

I use my three Synology drives for nothing but local backup; they’re not open to the internet. Why do I need three? Why not?

      Anyway, I have a DS114, 115, and DS116, all of which I updated to DM7 back in July – I think.

The update went fine, and I haven’t had any subsequent issues.

I guess Synology made some security upgrades, which I s’pose makes the exercise worth it.

Other than this, all I can say is that they added features that I don’t use.

I see no performance difference whatsoever between v7 and previous ones.

      Your mileage may vary.

I just bought a used DS220j which was already upgraded to DSM 7.0-41890. I was worried about this, because I’d heard that DSM 7 was not a good upgrade to take on the DS220j, and that people with this particular unit should stay on DSM 6.x. That being said, so far I have not had any issues with DSM 7 on this unit, and it has been running like a top as I would expect a Synology to run (given my past history/experience with them). 🙂

I would suggest searching for your model + DSM 7 and see if anyone else has reported any issues. Again, from what I’d read, it was not a recommended upgrade to take for my model, but so far so good. [knock on head] 😀

FYI: There was a recent DSM release that had to be pulled back because it was buggy. I saw this in the DSM release history page from Synology. I don’t have the URL handy, but the NAS linked to it.
