A basic question, but does System Restore include a full registry backup? I am about to make a registry change – something I normally avoid like the plague – and need to back it up before I start.

System restore would be overkill to undo a registry change. You can use RegEdit to export the part of the registry that you’re about to change to a .reg file. If you don’t like the effect of the change, simply open (double-click) the .reg file to restore the original situation.
