Was trying to put in a new plug in to add some functionality for the moderators but it did not like the main site.  Mind you it worked fine on the test site so even though you test, sometimes it’s not like the real thing.

    Back to normal operations.

Is there any way to recover text in a draft forum reply in your browser if the session is interrupted by a “Bad Gateway” error when you hit “Submit”, and get bumped from the server? The reply text hasn’t actually been saved anywhere yet as the post in the local browser page is replaced by the generic error page.

I typed a reply and hit submit while the AskWoody server was down.

Just wondering, as this doesn’t happen often, but it would be nice to recover if possible…

Sometimes if I hit back in the browser you get the cached info.

I was using Firefox (the latest) on Windows 10, and the back/forward buttons were not entirely functional after the “Bad Gateway” page loaded & the AskWoody page was gone. Got stuck in essentially a “Bad Gateway” loop.

I have browser caching enabled, but that error seemed to completely “lose” the current page.

I create my drafts in Notepad, then copy to the forum reply box when I’m satisfied with them.  If anything goes awry, I still have my draft.

Create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates, in case you need to start over!

There was another site that used to be so unreliable that notepad was the only way I could get a post done.

AskWoody has rarely let me down in recent memory. Browser crashes or BSODs here are even rarer. I suppose I could at least copy the text from any lengthy post to my clipboard just in case, so that it can be pasted into notepad and saved if a site develops issues.

        Try this:

        https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/textarea-cache/

I’ve used this extension for years and been quite satisfied with it.
