The vote is coming very soon on the long-negotiated anti robocalls law.

According to the email from Consumer Reports I got this morning:

The final robocall bill is up for a vote in the House and Senate. Make sure all of your elected lawmakers in Washington, D.C., know that you want a resounding YES vote by sending a message now. Together, let’s take back our phones from the robocallers!

We know you are sick and tired of robocalls, and frustrated by hearing your phone ring from yet another random caller. If we can get this robocall bill passed, it will do a lot to help end these annoying and costly scam calls:

      • Requires your phone company to help stop deceptive ‘spoofed’ calls before they reach your phone. Spoofed calls hide a robocaller’s identity, sometimes mimicking the phone numbers of your bank, the IRS, or even your own number.
      • Gives you this anti-robocall service FREE on both landline and mobile phones.
      • Beefs-up penalties on robocallers who intentionally violate rules against calling you.

For years we’ve pushed the phone companies, the FCC and Congress to get to this critical point in the robocall fight. Now, we need your help to make sure this bill gets across the finish line! Please send a quick message to your members of Congress asking for a YES vote.

Today, a second email from Consumer Reports with the news that the anti robocall law passed in the House for an overwhelming majority yesterday. So now it is up to the Senate to follow suit. When? That is in the Senate Majority Leader’s hands, but I hope there will be news about this as well, and ‘soon’ would be nice:

Thanks to so many who spoke out, the House of Representatives Wednesday passed the anti-robocall bill by a HUGE vote of 417 in favor, only 3 opposed!

Nearly every member of Congress who spoke on the House floor cited the consumer complaints they’d received about robocalls as their motivation for backing the legislation!

Now we need to get this bill through the Senate.

That vote could come early next week, so you can still send an email to Senators right now asking for a YES vote to help end robocalls.

      On to victory!
