It’ll likely take a couple of days. If things get a little flakey, my apologies in advance!

Best wishes, while hoping this bold, if metaphorical, rolling of the dice ends better for Woody’s and all who sail in her than it did, ultimately, for Julius… Who at least had the benefit of Cleo, along the fated way, to make his life’s final balance sheet fairer and sweeter.

So, ride on & keep in mind: Aut viam inveniam aut faciam.

I hope that everything goes well. I previously mentioned that all advertisements should automatically open in a new browser tab so as to not incur server overhead when the user hits the browser’s Back button to reload the AskWoody web page. It occurs to me that all user attachments should also open in a new browser tab by default, and for the same reason.

Perhaps also consider doing the same for the Recent Replies and Recent Topics? I frequently view various replies and topics under the Recent Replies and Recent Topics columns, yet I generally right-click on the links to open them in new browser tabs. This has the benefit, at least for me, of not having to use my browser’s Back button in order to return to the page which I was viewing just before viewing these links. Again, the idea here is to avoid unnecessary page reload requests to the server.

Just some thoughts for what they are worth.

Bear in mind that things designed to open new tabs ultimately mean the user has to close tabs or windows to clean up. Some can regard that irritating and it could push the very people you want to be here away.

That being said, an important aspect of good web design is about not taking your readers away from the place you’d like them to stay. Certainly having new tabs/windows open up when the navigation takes the user away from your site makes sense. Personally, from a user’s perspective I’d suggest everything that stays in-site, such as images, etc., should open up in the same window. Remember that the user himself/herself has the option to right-click on a link and choose “Open in new window/tab”.

Have to agree with Noel. If I want a link to open a new page, it’s as easy as a right click and a left click on “Open in new tab” and I prefer to have that choice. It would put a dent in the usability of the site if every click opens a new tab in the browser. I do prefer it if the link takes me somewhere other than the site I am on ( I usually manually open such a link in a new tab just to be sure since not all sites do that), but I definitely prefer all AW pages to load in the same tab. It would get too messy otherwise and quite annoying having to close extra tabs I didn’t open myself.

There are times I will open new AW pages in new tabs and other times I don’t, but it’s really not that difficult to do; just two clicks. I would prefer not to have my browser cluttered up with tabs unless I do the cluttering myself. 🙂 Otherwise, it’s just annoying. JMO.

I don’t know if it is related, but server response times are greatly improved at this point!  🙂

        The IP address of

        www.askwoody.com

has not changed yet. As of just now, from where I sit it’s still 45.33.96.32, which it has been for all of March. I suspect that means we’re still running on the same old server, since it should change when the new server comes online.
