    I have several .msg files which I can’t access using W10 v1809.
    I have MS Office 2010 installed but not including Outlook.
    Is there anything available to allow me to access these files?

      There are various tools for reading these.

      Also there are several versions of Microsoft’s MSG file format, Mozilla Thunderbird can apparently open some of them but not all. (Well it certainly has problems with a message exported from the latest monthly Outlook…) You need to either rename / copy the file to .eml or widen the criteria to “all files” to open it in Thunderbird.

      In W10, there is msgconvert in Windows Subsystem for Linux (at least the Ubuntu version of it), but that only does a partial conversion. Still, the normal email data is there at least, even when converting from the latest versions… unlike some tools which apparently just don’t work for that.

      … hm, apparently the package you need is libemail-outlook-message-perl.

      $ uname -sv
      Linux #253-Microsoft Mon Dec 31 17:49:00 PST 2018
      $ grep VERSION= /etc/*release
      /etc/os-release:VERSION=”16.04.5 LTS (Xenial Xerus)”
      $ dpkg-query -S /usr/bin/msgconvert
      libemail-outlook-message-perl: /usr/bin/msgconvert

      Thanks, but I’m not really wanting to delve into Windows subsystem for Linux.
      I found File Viewer Plus, which does the job, and as you say there are plenty of progs available after a Google search. Don’t know why I didn’t try that route myself first.
