I have a MySQL database on a Win 7 machine that I would like to access from a Win 10 machine over my home network.  At the moment I can see the hard disks of each computer from the other, but when I click on Network in File Explorer, neither machine sees the other, which I take to mean they aren’t really networked together.  Since I plan to use Logitech Flow to pass data from one machine to the other, Logitech Flow doesn’t see the network it needs to pass the data.  I’ve spent far too much time trying to find the work-around and hope someone here can point me in the right direction.

I had a similar problem recently. You may have already checked this, but make sure both computers are set to *private* network to allow them to see each other. I had one of my pcs set to public and the other couldn’t see it.

Seattle27, I was sure I had already taken care of that, but your post let me to double-check and I’m embarrassed to say the network on the Win 7 machine was set to Public.  So, I tried to change it to Private and failed.

More specifically, on the Win 7 machine, I opened the Network and Sharing Center and clicked on the link Public network, then on the Set Network Location screen I clicked on Home Network.  After a longish pause, I got the error msg “Windows could not set the network settings”.  I closed the window, re-selected Public Network and then selected Work Network.  This time I instantly got the same error msg.

However, now on both machines the other machine appears when I click on Network in File Explorer AND Logitech Flow now works — I have no idea why just restarted the Win 7 machine and it still says its network is Public.  Nevertheless, I can see both machines from the other on the Network and Logitech still works.

The Force is strong with you!!

The attached PDF is my instructions on how to set up a home network between Window 10 and Windows 7 PCs.  I have Windows 10 and Windows 7 on my home network and all PCs share files.

      Key problem points are

      1.  Security settings on a PC that prevent that PC from sharing data
      2. Firewall setting on a PC that prevents the PC from responding to network requests to connect.  Test by deactivating the security settings and see if sharing will occur.

      Set-Up-a-Home-Network-for-File-Sharing
After checking all the settings in those instructions, you still have problems, post back with specific of security software you use.

        Dana,

If you’ve already seen my msg to Seattle27, you’ll see the problem was fixed (‘though I don’t know why) before I got to your instructions.

Nevertheless, thank you for your efforts.
