My pc is with Win 10 Home, vers. 1809, installed 25-3-19, Build 17763.615.

When trying to update I get a message like (translated from my local language):

Windows Update. There was an error. Latest controlled: 18-08-2019.

Your unit is missing important security and quality related corrections.

There were problems with installation of updates but we will try again later. If you get this message again … the following may help: 0x80070422.

I have seen many posts on the internet, including this forum, and tried many of the things suggested, but to no avail. I have had the pc on for hours to enable automatic update, but it doesn’t happen. (It’s not my main computer which is a Win7, so it is not always on, but perhaps I should just leave it on for longer periods of time?).

The pc works fine but sooner or later I guess I have to update. (Esp. when Win7 runs out).

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Possible solutions for error 0x80070422 are mentioned here:
      https://windowsreport.com/windows-10-update-error-0x80070422/

if none of the solutions work for your situation, I’m afraid you have to re-install Windows 10 v1809 using an “in-place” upgrade install from local Win10 install media from either a DVD or USB flash drive.

Thanks! I’ll look into it. I only now saw your post – didn’t get a mail notifier though I think I checked the box for that.  The link you give looks very thorough.

Have now tried the solutions mentioned in the link (again). It didn’t work.

Going to install a full image backup made with Macrium Reflect, which I make regularly.

Succeeded in restoring the full image backup through Macrium Reflect. I had to try several backups – but the August 2019 backup was without the update error. Then I could update to v. 1909. It took a while but without problems.

Recommandation: Regularly take full image backups. It has saved me several times, and is much faster than various kinds of reinstalling. Macrium Reflect is one of the best, in my opinion, for making full image backups. It can even verify the image after making it, also in the free edition (but you have to tag this every time, in the free ed.).

I have the same problem. I’ve tried all the suggestions in the article link above, to no avail. Really? I have to reinstall Windows? I have a Dell laptop and don’t think I have any media–it’s a 4+ year old machine and received W10 via the update when it came out. What’s the cause of this error? Now I’m thinking I made a mistake to use all the delaying tactics recommended here, as I’m up the creek. Not helpful.

More info: I am unable to start the Windows Update Service; it is disabled. If I set it to start either manually or automatically, it doesn’t. If I start it manually, it starts, then stops itself. If automatically, I get error 1058, The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it  has no enabled devices associated with it.
