Just a few weeks ago, I hooked-up a new SSD into my comfuser & did a clean install of W10, Version 1909 (Build 18363.418).  I’ve got (mostly) everything working the way I want & now plan to upgrade to Version 20H2 (Build 19042).

        My question:
Since my current version is behind by 2, when I start the upgrade, will the upgrade route go to Version 2004 (Build 19041) & THEN to Version 20H2 (Build 19042)?
Or straight to Version 20H2 (Build 19042), skipping Version 2004 (Build 19041)?

Depends on how you do the upgrade.
The easiest may be to wait until Windows update offers the 20H2 update and use that.
If the update is not offered, use the Heidoc tool to download the ISO, mount it and run setup.exe from it.

        cheers, Paul

Yesterday, I simply changed my target version to 20H2 (from 1909), ran WUMT, and was offered it.

Took a while to update from 1909 but ran OK.
