    1. Is 2022-08 Security Update (KB5012170) okay to install? I still have it as “defer” and haven’t noted an “all clear.” Do I need it?
    2. I was recently offered KB5017500, 2022-09 C.U. for .NET. I don’t see this on the Master Patch List, but there are two others that I haven’t been offered, KB5017022 and KB5017025, both of which have security updates. What to do?

    Thanks,

    D. Eager

August was given a tentative install … just go around the secure boot.

Those .net are on the September listings, I’m not yet ready to give the all clear.

      Susan,

Sorry to be so dense, but I don’t understand either of your responses.

For KB5012170, I don’t know what “just go around the secure boot” means.

For the .NET updates, if KB5017500 I was offerred on Windows Update is a September update to be deferred, why isn’t it in the 9/13 Master Patch List as such? Is it somewhere in the list that I’m missing? Why was I not offerred either KB5017022 and KB5017025 through wushowhide or Windows Update?

      Thanks!

These posts should help to answer your question about the relationships among KB5017500, KB5017022 and KB5017025 — <here> and <here>.

Should I install KB5012170 (2022-08 C.U.) not knowing what “just go around the secure boot” means or just wait for the OK on KB5017308 (2022-09 C.U.)?

BTW, I posted my original item to the wrong forum, Win 11 21H2. I’m running Win 10 21H2. Sorry!

        @doneager

        When Susan said

August was given a tentative install … just go around the secure boot.

I believe she meant to say that you can install the regular monthly update for August, but don’t install KB5012170, the secure boot update. By the way, I don’t believe that KB5012170 will be included in the September patch, as it was a completely separate, stand-alone update from the August monthly update. That’s why its title is “KB5012170: Security update for Secure Boot DBX: August 9, 2022”. It wasn’t released as a monthly update, it just happened to be released the same day as the regular monthly update for Windows was released.

If you have already decided to install KB5012170, please do as @Alex5723 says below and

        …Take a full image backup…

before proceeding to install it. If KB5012170 fails to install successfully, then you can use the tool of your choice (wushowhide, WUMT, or WUMGR) to hide it from Windows Update, and it won’t be offered to you at all in the future.

I hope this helps answer your question.

      Should I install KB5012170

I installed KB5012170 back in August on a Win 10 Pro 21H2 with secure boot with no problems.
Take a full image backup and install KB5012170. You can always restore in case of problems.
