• Update to Win 10 21H2

I am presently on Win 10, ver 21H1 and I want to update to 21H2.  I use the Group Policy’s “Select the target Feature Update version” and set it to Windows 10/21H2 three days ago. I still haven’t seen the update yet.  How long can it take for me to get the feature update. I also have the Group Policy’s “Configure automatic updating” set to “2” and have Windows Updates “Paused” until Oct 30, 2022.  Can either of these interfere with this?  If I need to turn off “Pause”, I would like to do it before “Patch Tuesday” (10/11/2022) of this month.

You won’t get update when “Paused”. Remove the pause.

Hi Alex5723, thanks for your quick response. I removed the “Pause” and Windows update checked for updates but says “You’re up to date”.  As already stated, I am trying to update  my Windows 10 pro machine from 21H1 to 21H2 and like laksi, I want to make the update before Oct 11. If 21H2 doesn’t show up in Windows update by Oct 10, is there a way to manually make the update?  Can I make a Windows installation media for 21H2? What is your opinion on the best way to do this?

One more thing. Knowing I only want to install ver 21H2 before Oct 11, should I click on “Check for updates”?

Askwoody doesn’t recommend ‘check for updates’.

Run a tool like WUmgr… to check for updates . hide updates (like previews..) and install the updates you want.

Remember : create a full image copy before any update.

I am planning on updating to 21H2 and have a couple of questions:

1- Do I need to have my computer updated before I go to 21H2?

2- You recommend to do a full image backup, which I have done in the past. Can I do the full image backup over a prior version like 1909 or do I have to keep buying new thumb drives??

3- If I don’t update to 21H2 before Oct 11th, will I be able to still update?

        Thank you

          1. I would recommend having the latest updates for moving to a newer Feature version.
          2. An image backup of 1909 is not much use nowadays, so you can either create a new one on the same drive (if there’s space) or just delete the old image and create a fresh new full image backup.
          3. Yes – October 11th is just Patch Tuesday, where monthly Quality updates are released for 21H1/2. I don’t think 22H2 is due to be released until later in the month.

Solved due to another upd.issue I encountered on another machine.
I DL 21H2 ISO and ran it. Ended up with windows install (keep apps & files). It went all the way of win install which took its time, but success,21H2 is now running.

OK, it took a few days but 21H2 finally showed up in Windows update this morning. Thanks for your responses to my posts.
