What is the  easiest  way to update to v2004?

The recommended Windows 10 version is 1909 with May 2020 Patches (not to confuse with May 2020 2004 version).

You can only download 1909 from Heidoc.net by downloading and running the site’s tool and selecting Windows 10 November 2019 Home/Pro (1909).

        Disconnect from the Internet/wi-fi.

Double click on the downloaded ISO file and run setup.exe.
Go over all settings, set deferrals…(block June 2020 updates. block Windows 10 2004)
        See : https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/2000016-guide-for-windows-update-settings-for-windows-10

Re-connect your PC to the Internet and let Windows updates install the monthly updates (don’t click on ‘check for updates’).

Edit : If you insist on 2004 with its multiple bugs you have 3 choices :

        1. Download and run Microsoft’s MCT tool
        2. Check for update
        3. Wait for Microsoft to offer 2004 providing 2004 is compatible with your hardware/drivers…

If ‘check for update’ was used , and the laptop was ‘not yet ready’ for v2004 , would it update to v1909?

No. There no 1909 anymore from Microsoft

That’s not strictly true. The files are still available and if your machine is “not ready” for 2004 you will get an earlier version.

See this CW article for a method to prevent upgrades past a certain version. Seems to work on Home or Pro.

        cheers, Paul
