I upgraded to Windows 10 20H2 a couple of weeks ago on my DIY machine with no problems or issues noticed so far. This morning, though, I rebooted after Outlook 365 wouldn’t start (not the first time, I’ve always found Outlook finicky at best) and saw the do not turn off your machine prompts while updates are in progress both while shutting down and restarting. This while updates are paused in Settings.

Can someone help me understand why this would happen? Thanks.

Can you locate what was installed?
Look in Windows Update History and in Installed Updates for OS installations.
Look in Office and Outlook for version numbers and installation dates.

Pleas let us know what you find.

It looks like no Windows updates since 12/31. Word reports version 2012 (Build 13530.20316 Click-to-Run) Current Channel. It looks like it must have been an Office updates because I found it set to install updates automatically. I’ve changed that now. I don’t know why but I’ve never thought to look in the updates section of Office. Duh!

Office Click-to-Run updates never require Windows to be restarted.

With automatic updates off you’ll need to check manually each month.
