Updating win. 10 April 2021 question

I have win 10 Ver. 1909 Build 18363.1350. I’ve held off on updating since finding the Adobe Flash Player will be uninstalled if I let the auto-update roll. And since I’m not really clear on if i need the Flash Player to continue watching videos is my question of the month and if so, then it’s past time to replace it and I tried one method but it’s not installing correctly. I’m not a gamer and in the meantime, I’m still not clear also, in selecting the process of updates like before in windows 7. Now, the task would be to catalog select at Microsoft Updates site itself and select the updates preferred that way?

Most likely you do not need Flash to watch videos. This is because Flash is already blocked in modern browsers.

Unless you watch videos on a very specific (old) site then any browser will work without Flash.

All the big sites where you can watch videos such as YouTube, Netflix, Facebook, etc. use HTML5 (which is built into all browsers), not Flash, to serve videos. And as Paul T said, modern browers already block Flash, so if your browser is up to date and you can still watch the videos you want to that is further confirmation that it’s not in use.

Furthermore, Flash is out of date and a security vulnerability to some degree, so you should want it gone from your system. Microsoft is actually doing us a service by removing it – shocking, I know!

The only thing that Flash is used for is for some very rare and out of date websites, but if you encounter one of those you will know and can install a Flash alternative if you simply must access it.

Agree with Paul T, any other browser should work fine for watching videos.

I also would like to add that you can change the way updates get installed by going to settings>Network&Internet>Network Status>Properties and here you can choose metered connection. This tricks Windows Update into not installing any updates.

I would not recommend this long term. Only temporarily to prevent bad updates or drivers from being installed.
