    Apple, Google, Meta want to limit US user data they hand over
    Section 702 of FISA law expires this year if not reauthorized

    Top tech companies are mounting a push to limit how US intelligence agencies collect and view texts, emails and other information about their users, especially American citizens.

    The companies, including Alphabet Inc.’s Google, Meta Platforms Inc. and Apple Inc., want Congress to limit Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, as they work to renew the law before it expires at the end of the year, according to three people familiar with the discussions. ..

    Intelligence agencies say Section 702 is an essential tool that has generated critical information on the espionage and hacking activities of countries such as China and contributed to the successful drone strike that killed al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri last year…

      Thank you Alex5723. *Peculiar* that also data-snooping from individuals by the big tech-companies are not mentioned, the snooping in order to maximise and expanse profits and markets.
      So, years ago mr Assange as a free journalist warned the world for the various traces and trackings methods, and he must be extradited to be convicted for treason in the usa. And now it’s all in the views of ultimate state-security and legalisation.

        Where’s the list?

        In Bloomberg’s report.

        There’s no complete list of companies involved in the Bloomberg article, but it says;

        The companies mainly plan to work through the Reform Government Surveillance coalition, which was established in 2014. The group, which includes the biggest tech companies, …

        That group was started by Vice Chairman and President of Microsoft, Brad Smith:

        And in the fall of 2013, Mr. Smith and Erika Rottenberg, the general counsel of LinkedIn, the social media company, organized a meeting of general counsels from a half dozen or so major technology companies to talk about further unifying their efforts to press for government change. The meeting, in a private dining room of a restaurant in Palo Alto, Calif., eventually led to the formation of the Reform Government Surveillance coalition, which counts Google, Facebook, Twitter, Apple, Microsoft and LinkedIn as members.

        The Bloomberg article also mentions Microsoft funding for related efforts;

        … Security and Surveillance Project at the Center for Democracy and Technology, which receives funding from tech companies including Google, Amazon, Microsoft Inc. and TikTok Inc.

        The Security and Surveillance Project of the CDT was created for the purpose of limiting the extent of which governments should be allowed to access and store personal information about their citizens, in addition to limiting the surveillance of foreign citizens.
