I have a high-end Netgear modem/router with VOIP,  connected to the (Australian NBN) Internet and haven’t had a single problem in 4 years. I now note that Netgear have made this model end-of-life 2 years ago and as of now there will be no more firmware updates. Can anyone recommend a brand of consumer modem/router that has decent firmware, with no security holes or existing weaknesses and who take security seriously?

You may be able to install OpenWrt, which will give you the same functionality, but is updated regularly.

      What is the router model?

Thanks for the link, but I went to the site and the compatible brands are very limited. Netgear isn’t even listed. I did enter my model number but that wasn’t found. So no luck there, unfortunately. What’s your opinion of TP Link’s attitide to security? Aren’t they the consumer arm of Cisco who, I hear, is very slack on security.

That’s a lot bigger list than I could get previously. Unfortunately my model isn’t listed. It’s a VDSL2 2.4/5GHz modem/gigabit router with VOIP telephony and USB for external stotage. NF17ACV. It also has up to 3 guest networks for each frequency. I need all of this functionality, including the telephony and guest networks.

Cisco is very good on security. You have been misinformed.
      Cisco bought Linksys in 2013.

Plenty of Netgear devices on the list – click on this link.
