I have a logon password for Win 8.1. Yesterday I did not notice that it had not asked me for the password and saw “preparing windows” and then I was into a new desktop! I rebooted and it then asked for the password and I was back to normal. Any ideas why this might have happened anyone????

It sounds like the first time your were logged in without your profile. And when you rebooted, it then logged you in with your own profile.

There has been a bug with the lost profiles for a while. MS has not acknowledged it, but it has been reported here. I would suggest you look in the Event Viewer and see if you can identify what caused the temporary loss of profile.

OK. Thanks. I have heard of lost profiles but never experienced one before. And don’t want to again! It was a bit scary but everything is backed up. But the thought of having to set it all up again as I want it………
