Most likely a prohibition patch for new architecture CPU’s, given the recent form of MS 🙁

      Win8.1/R2 Hybrid lives on..

On WSUS it does not superseding anything – so it is candidate for DECLINE 🙂

Unknown, since KB4022726 fixed the related issues (“Addressed issue where an unsupported hardware notification is shown and Windows Updates not scanning, for systems using the AMD Carrizo DDR4 processor or Windows Server 2012 R2 systems using Xeon E3V6 processor”) that Microsoft listed with earlier updates.

My best guess is it’s an patch to block updates on “unsupported hardware.”

Weren’t there technical problems installing Windows on some new CPUs? Maybe this is a fix for this?

Still not much info on this patch but, kohno97 on Reddit reports it’s a fix for receiving further updates from the initial “hardware not supported” warning on the then, newer usupported hardware.

      Is it worth installing?

Simple Hex-checking wuaueng.dll reveals this sentence
probably it’s to allow Server 2012 R2 to tolerate with some 6th (or 7th?) generation CPUs

Processor is considered supported based on server policy override.

Hmm interesting. So maybe after this update it’s possible use Server 2012 R2 on Ryzen CPU?

Who knows what CPUs are ment with this override

Ryzen or Kabylake owners will have to install S2012R2 and the update and see 😀

The server is likely not supposed to be subject to the same limitations like the desktop OS.
I currently run a lot of lab virtual machines on Intel NUC Skylake and don’t see any limitation for Windows 7 or 8.1 or any server version. The virtualisation platform is the enterprise grade free Citrix XenServer but I used ESXi as well in the past and again I couldn’t identify any limitation.
