    @abbodi86
    Are the updates you list as being handled by the WU legacy agent and the updates handled by the UUP agent– outlined in your July 22 post #2282610 — still true? I ask because I think there has been a change in how dotNET Previews are handled (I am v1909), but I am not sure about that.

    Additionally:
    Under what agent do the Week “B” monthly Patch Tuesday CUs fall?
    Under what agent do the Week “C” or Week “D” CU Previews fall?
    Are the lists for the WU legacy agent and for the UUAP agent different for v2004?

      Yes, it stand still

      – v1809 -> v20H2
      UUP: Cumulative Update, Feature Update, Microsoft Edge (first installer), KB4023057
      WUA: all other updates including .NET Cumulative Update

      – v1803 it’s the same, except KB4023057 is handled by WUA

      – v1709 it’s also the same as 1803, except it don’t get Microsoft Edge

      – v1703, UUP handle Feature Update only, all others belong to WUA

      – in the upcoming v21H1, UUP will handle .NET updates too

      this apply to both updates “types”, whether B week or C/D week
      howver, the updates attributes differ between the two, which deremine if the update should be installed always (Security Updates), or can be optionalized

        this applies to both update “types”, whether B week or C/D week;
        however, the updates attributes differ between the two, which determine if the update should be installed always (Security Updates), or can be optionalized

        Can you explain this a little bit more?

        With regard to Cumulative CUs (security & preview) and .NET Cumulative CUs (security & preview) and based on #206984, #2308861, #2308861, and this post, I have made this little mnemonic. Is this correct? Maybe, UUP is the wrong term, but I am referring to the queue that Feature Update uses, too – i.e., the section of the WU display for the queue that has optional updates with a ‘download and install’ button”, in other words, in contrast to the WUA queue at the top of the WU screen where the ‘check for updates’ button is.

          post-script: I also realize that as of recent, a .NET preview (preview=released in a non-B week) won’t be offered (i.e., won’t ever appear in the WU queue), if the KBfile it is superseding has not been installed.

          UUP is a correct term generally

          the mnemonic is not entirely accurate
          UUP handle all Cumulative Updates, whether Security or Preview
          it’s not just for optional update panel

          the official term for UUP agent is “Flighting DCat Prod Service”
          prior to v1709, it was a separate service to deliver Feature Updates

          since v1709, it became companion service with Windows Update service (together they called Federated Services)
          you can see how they works by creating readable log using powershell cmdlet Get-WindowsUpdateLog

          as for the updates attributes that define wether the update should be always installed (B-Week security updates) or not

          for UUP agent it’s a bit complicated, but the most important attribute is DeploymentAction
          Install = update is offered at the top of WU page and it’s always set for installation
          OptionalInstall = update is offered at the Optional updates section

          #2285636 gives example of WUA attributes which define if the update should be installed always, or negotiated
