The past weeks I read about audio problems after installing KB 4489899, but has it been re-released meanwhile and is it (now) safe to install?

The version offered to me through WuMgr is:
2019-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1809 for x64-based Systems (KB4489899); Security Update; 12.03.2019

The strange thing is (to me at least) that the Catalog says it’s meanwhile replaced by 4490481, which again is replaced by 4493509 – which has problems of its own: https://www.ghacks.net/2019/04/14/microsoft-confirms-two-known-issues-for-recent-windows-10-updates/

      TWIMC:

After I found this post on tenforums https://www.tenforums.com/windows-10-news/128745-cumulative-update-kb4489899-windows-10-v1809-build-17763-379-mar-12-a-4.html#post1594240 I installed 4489899 and Realtek Audio is still doing fine.

      Quote from the post:
KB4489899 causes that problem only if there are multiple audio outputs or playback devices for Realtek HD audio (speakers, realtek digital output [SPDIF], etc.) and the output selected is not the “default audio device.”

If only the “Speakers” output is listed on the Sound properties playback tab for Realtek audio (usually on ALC2xx codecs), then KB449899 is safe to install.

        hi LTL

the guy whom you quoted from the Ten forums post is me (erpster)

also KB4489899 is integrated into the 1809 V2 ISOs when Microsoft declared v1809 into the SAC (semi-annual channel) on March 28, 2019. if you were to download the 1809 ISO from the Win10 downloads page now and install Win10 v1809, you will already have the KB4489899 update installed w/out having to download it again
