Why did I hide KB5012170 back in August 2022?

UEFI installation of Windows 10 Pro x64 22H2.

Back in August 2022, I hid the 2022-08 version of the security update KB5012170. Today, Windows Update is offering me the 2022-12 version of KB5012170. The problem is that I cannot remember why I hid KB5012170 back in August. A search of this site and others has not enabled me to reconstruct the reason.

What is the current wisdom concerning KB5012170? Is it a patch that I should be attempting to install even if it fails to install (failure to install appears to be one of the known issues)? Or is it a patch that I should be keeping at arm’s length and hide again?

KB5012170 is on the “do not install” list on Susan’s Master Patch List.
Try using Search on this site to find the reasons she so advises.

I did search this site, but maybe I didn’t search hard or long enough. Anyway, I’ll hide it again now, and document why I hid it this time!

Just to close the loop on this one. Thank you for the link and, I was right, I didn’t search long or hard enough. And Susan Bradley’s Computerworld article on the patch, dated 19 December 2022, just about says it all.

do hide/block the “new” version of KB5012170 again as Microsoft issues “revised” versions of it from time to time
