I heard about Incontrol from this website, put it on both my computer and my wife’s, and “took control,” making sure that its values in the lower left-hand-side were correct. No issues there; I got the “You are in control” message for both machines. (We are both running Windows 11 21H2, I have Pro and she has Home.)

But before doing the above, we have both seen the Windows 11 22H2 update show up in Windows Update, and paused it. (We aren’t using any program to vet patches with, like wushowhide, though that is something else I’m interested in doing, when I get the chance.)

I know that if we are stuck upgrading to 22H2 we can roll back to 21H2, but was curious if anyone here knows if using Incontrol in this way would be enough to stop the 22H2 update. Would this be enough? Or would I have to purge the Windows Update download folder, like I have seen other folks have to do for Windows 10? Or something else? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Oh and also, if we do end up rolling back to 21H2 will we have to reinstall all of our programs? Thanks.

Download wushowhide.diagcab (there is a link in Section 1 of AKB2000016).
Put it on your desktop, double click on the icon, click on “Advanced” then uncheck the “Apply fixes automatically.”
Click on “Hide Updates” – this will show you the current pending updates. What you see in Windows Update is what’s in the WU cache and is not necessarily current, as it doesn’t get updated till WU runs on its own (and you have it paused). If the update does not show in wushowhide, it is not currently being offered for download. Hide any of the other updates you don’t want to install.

If the 22H2 upgrade has already downloaded, you may have to clear the download folder.
In an elevated Command Prompt (Run as Administrator) run these commands:

      net stop wuauserv
      net stop cryptSvc
      net stop bits
      net stop msiserver
      Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
      net start wuauserv
      net start cryptSvc
      net start bits
      net start msiserver

Verify that the SoftwareDistribution folder has been renamed.
      Reboot the computer.
Verify the 22H2 upgrade does not show up in wushowhide.
You can unpause Windows Update to install any other updates you want, or leave it paused until it is safe to install the June updates later in the month.

Incontrol works for 11 as well as 10.

Also rolling back is fast and you do not have to reinstall anything.

do realize for the OP that Windows 11 21H2 Home & Pro editions will go out of support in October 10, 2023 as noted here:
      https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-11-home-and-pro

the OP can temporarily stop the upgrade to Win11 22H2 and stay with the 21H2 version until October of this year, in which after Oct. 10, 2023 MS may “force upgrade” to the 22H2 version
