Hi, I am new here and have been reviewing the advice on this forum, which seems excellent. However, I have a question regarding the Microsoft Telemetry and Windows 10 Upgrade issue. I am running Windows 8.1 64bit Intel and run Windows Update every month. I won’t be upgrading to Windows 10.

I have updated my settings to disable Telemetry, CEIP, Diagnostics etc as advised on the forum.

I have noted that patches 3044374, 3068708, 3080149, 3150513 are identified on this forum as Telemetry patches. I have 3044374 (Installed 26/5/2015) and 3150513 (Installed 7/6/2020). I have not installed 3068708 or 3080149.

Question 1 : With my system in this state what should I do with 3044374, 3150513? Just uninstall them ?

Question 2 : There are about 26 other patches that have been identified on here as connected with the Microsoft Windows 10 upgrade stuff. Most of them I have not installed. However I have installed the following patches. What should I do about these ?

        KB3050267       Installed 11/7/2015

        KB3065988       Installed 15/7/2015

        KB3075853       Installed 13/8/2015

        KB3138615       Installed 18/3/2016

        KB3139929       Installed 10/3/2016

        KB2976978       Installed 7/2/2020

It’s time for me to clean things up and get in sync with the great advice on this forum.

        Any help would be appreciated.

Leave the patches and disable the telemetry as shown in this post. Removing old patches may be problematic and if it’s working, don’t “fix” it.

        cheers, Paul

        @OP You asked so..
The last time I fresh installed Win8.1 Pro x64, around a year ago, a few of the offending patches were not available in Windows Update that assist in telemetry harvesting/W10 upgrade.

        These patches were in WU:
Important KB2976978 – Performs/collects compatibility appraiser logs to ease upgrade to 10
Important KB3044374 – WindowsUpdate Client to enable the upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10
Recommend KB3046480 – Update helps to determine whether to migrate the .NET Framework 1.1 when you upgrade Windows.
Recommend KB3080149 – Adds telemetry points to (UAC) low-level requests.

Older telemetry patches that not longer appear in WU:
KB3068708 – Update for customer experience and diagnostic telemetry Tracking service.
KB3123862 – Updated capabilities to upgrade Windows 8.1 and Windows 7
        KB3150513 – Appraiser.sdb and Appraiser_telemetryrunlist.xml.
        KB971033 – Windows activation technologies.
KB3068708 – Update for customer experience and diagnostic telemetry.
KB3080149 – Adds telemetry points to (UAC) collects information on elevations from low-level requests.
KB3123862 – Updated capabilities to upgrade Windows 8.1 and Windows 7
        KB3150513 – Appraiser.sdb and Appraiser_telemetryrunlist.xml.
KB3173040 – Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1 end of free upgrade offer notification.

One patch I would uninstall, that is, if you have it on your system:
KB971033 – Windows activation technologies, this has been problematic over the years.

good luck, it is doable to a certain degree and in conjunction with firewall rules and the link to the AKB provided by @Paul-T.

No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created IT - AE

Security Monthly Rollup already contain most or all those updates

        so, just hide them
