My win10 key is built in to the machine – bought it used, with no OS and installed win10 Pro on it and is licensed fine. Its previous life was a company – they were selling bunches at the time.

Has Nvidia chipset in addition to intel i7.

I will break down and use my MS login.

I will of course back up the SSD NVMe with terabyte.

Will use recommended things like startisback and/or stuff from stardock to get things as much as possible like win7 😉 (I use 7+ Taskbar Tweaker at the moment).

I use WuMgr and will use it there as I understand it works fine. Simple system: FF, TBIRD, SSE, some old games, Steam etc, skype, zoom, etc, external monitor via usb-c,

I downloaded v2 of the iso or could just use the update sitting in WuMgr for 11. suggestions for easiest approach. Not sure if should wait for 23H2. I ditched linux for a while so this is my next project.

One thing I wouldn’t do (if it were me) is to jump on 23H2 when it first comes out. If you are going to upgrade to Win11 any time soon, try 22H2, which should be more stable than a just-out version. But Win10 is good till Oct. 2025.

Image backup and file backup of data for sure.
Be sure your drivers are up to date.
It wouldn’t hurt to run before hand, to be sure your current is in good shape:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
sfc /scannow
Watch out for encryption if you have it activated, or if it’s on by default afterward.

Either the Win11 ISO or Windows Update will give you the same outcome – keeping apps and data.

yes – I never go to a new version for at least a couple months. Don’t know why I suggested it. Thanks.

It will not install if WuMgr is active. Have to turn windows updates back on, reboot and then go. I used the MS creator to burn my usb stick, and then clicked on setup. Takes a while. An hour? Only made 3 mods but need one to shut off the touchscreen(see next post):

easy – shut off touch screen:
On the Windows 11 desktop, right-click the Start icon and choose Device Manager. Here, expand the Human Interface Devices section. Look for a device called HID-compliant touch screen. Right-click it and then choose Disable device from the context menu.

It did NOT ask me to use my MS login so still using my own.
