Edition Windows 10 Pro Version 21H1  OS build 19043.2006

I can see from a search that there USB printer problems after people installed KB5015807 2022-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64 systems. I installed that on 3 Aug 22 and I’ve been printing since then up to 28 Aug being the last identified print I can find.

I applied KB5016616 2022-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64 systems on 5 Sep 22 and then KB5017499 2022-09 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8 and 4.8.1 for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64  on 30 Sep 22 (2 days after I believe was my last print)

Today I find my Cannon Pixma ip4300 has disappeared from app print options and Settings/Printers. It was installed at the start of the year when I installed a fresh copy of Win 10. There is no Win 10 driver so I used the Win 7 driver and it worked.

I tried reinstalling. The install goes OK but in Settings/Settings/Printers & Scanners it is listed as Driver Unavailable. I tried Adding the printer manually but it wants an inf file and my Cannon driver is an application. I ran the app again selecting the manual port option but it only list COM, LPT etc ports – no USB ports.

Strangely I can print to this printer over the network from another Win 10 PC but now I realise that PC is Version 21H2 OS build 19044.2006.

Should I upgrade my PC to 21H2 to cure the problem or is there a simpler solution?

    Thanks for reading.

    Alan

The current approved update for 21H1 is 2022-09 CU KB5017308.
Try bringing it up to date and see if that solves the problem.

        Thank you for responding

Sorry, I meant to list the CU but accidently listed the NET FW one. Yes, 2022-09 CU KB5017308 has been applied. It was applied on 30 Aug. I think this is the cause of my problem.

PS I will edit my post if I am allowed to do that.

Printer now recovered by going back to an image copy of the C: drive dated 5 Sep 22.

This means the following updates have been reversed:

      • KB5016616 2022-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 21H1
      • KB5017499 2022-09 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework
      • KB5017308 2022-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 21H1

I did first restore to 30 Sep 22 just before KB5017499 and KB5017308 and the printer was still missing. It seems that KB5016616 was the problem. On the other hand I was printing OK up to 28 Aug.

I’ve disabled Windows Update and will re-enable for the Oct update.
