Windows 10 Local area network problem.
Using the windows file explorer to access resources on other network devices or PC.

Win 10 to Win 10 Works
Win 10 to server 2012 Works
Win 10 to Win 8.1 works
Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Works.

Win 10 to Win 7 Pro fails
Win 10 to WDMYCLOUD Fails (This is a local NAS device).

All non-Win 10 PCs can access each other OK.
All PCs & devices are members of the same work group but there is no home group set up.
The same user name and password on all systems.
It makes no difference on the Win 10 PC whether you are logged in as local or MS account.

I have to put off looking into this problem for about a day.
I hope that some of the knowledgeable techs That read this can leave a few suggestions.

    Thanks in advance Ron.

      Ron,

I have no problem accessing my Win 7 Pro 64-Bit Laptop or my WD MyBook Live NAS from the Win10TP Build 9926.
I am running the TP in Virtual box hosted on a Win 8.1 Pro 64-Bit machine (as that may be different from your configuration).
I am also using regular networking NOT Homegroups!

      HTH

Update: I can also access the Win10TP from my Win7 Pro 64-Bit laptop.

Thanks for the reply. My 2 Windows 10 systems are raw installs, only system on the box.
I did not have this problem until 9926.
One thing I did not mention before. Win 10 sees the other devices, just wont let me connect. The WDMYCLOUD can be accessed for it’s normal folders like music, public. But I have additional folders that are used for system backups. These folders can be accessed only by non-Win 10 systems.
Strange how yours works and both of my Win 10 systems fail.

      Ron,

On your WD NAS how do you have your security set? I use the same Username/Password combinations on all my machines and have an entry in the NAS to allow combination access. HTH

Like you I use the same security of the same user and PW on all my local systems & devices.
When I bring up windows explorer, on the left side from top to bottom you have these groups.
        Quick Access
        OneDrive
        This PC
        Network
        Homegroup
My WDMYCLOUD device is shown twice, once under ThisPC and again under Network.
When I click on the one under This PC it displays the folders Music, Photos & Videos
These folders were preset-up By WD under the Public folder. There is no error here.
When I click on the one under network I get the error.
When I created my backup folder on the NAS I used the same settings on that WD had on the Public folder.
I should be able to start working on this problem tonight.

        Thanks Ron

      Ron,

I did not use the same settings as the Public share.

First I set up USERS (Same Name & PW as my computer)
      39195-WDUsers
Then I allow that user to access the share.
      39196-WDShares

        This problem has been fixed.
I finally ask myself why was windows not asking for credentials?
Go into the control, open “Credential Manager” and add the devices or PCs and all is well.
This means that the real problem is, Windows is not asking us to input credentials in this version. One would hope that Microsoft will fix this or let people know there is a change.

To RetiredGeek, Thank you for spending some time on this, Your feed back was helpful and I did make some changes to my NAS box because of your coments.
