Does anybody know if these “moments” updates change any of the Microsoft account bypass methods when initially setting up Windows 11? As in they’ll no longer work anymore? Or is that more likely to happen with the next feature update version? I’ve been looking into buying a new laptop but would rather hold off if I can’t create a local account.

      Most unlikely.

      Yes.

I’ve been looking into buying a new laptop but would rather hold off if I can’t create a local account.

Whatever happens on setup, it will always be possible to switch from signing in with a Microsoft account to a local account after the event:

That method doesn’t work anymore, at least with one of the newer versions of Windows 11 22H2.  I tried that method yesterday, and I couldn’t find the “log in with a local account” link.  I had to stay with my Microsoft account.

It’s still there, under Settings, Accounts, Your info:

          local-account-instead

I set up a new Win11 laptop a month or so ago.
When it asks for a Microsoft ID (email address) enter “no@thankyou.com” (no quotes) and any password. It should complain of an error and allow the creation of a Local ID (may call it a “limited” ID).

You shouldn’t have to create a Microsoft ID then change it after the initial installation process.
