A friend in Boston (I’m in Minnesota) had an automatic update done on her computer. Now the keyboard does not function. After a search of the forums didn’t find ANYTHING – but I’ll take the blame for that since I haven’t searched before.

I am accessing her computer via TeamViewer.

What can I do to resolve?

This is the easiest, most obvious, but you will have to get her to do this:
If it’s a desktop and the keyboard is USB, try disconnecting and reconnecting in a different port.
If it’s a desktop and the keyboard is wireless, try connecting a USB keyboard.
If it’s a laptop, try connecting a USB keyboard.

Yes, it is a laptop – and she doesn’t have a USB keyboard.

I was hoping for some information about the update that can be reversed… Any news from M$FT?

        Thank you.

Borrow the keyboard from a neighbor/friend.
This has not been reported as a problem with the update, although you can see if uninstalling the update will fix the problem. Does your keyboard work in Team Viewer?

Have you tried first turning off Fast Startup in Control Panel\Power options, then restarting (not power off/power on) the computer?

Does the keyboard show up in Device Manager? Have you tried uninstalling it then reinstalling?

Under Settings\Update and Security\Troubleshoot there is a keyboard troubleshooter. Try running it.

I’m trying solutions that don’t involve taking the laptop apart and/or replacing the keyboard.

Resolved. She had outstanding updates to be done. I installed them – and everything is back to working. Yea!
