I’m still running Windows 7, and also use Office 365 Click-to-Run – which I update approximately monthly.

Today, after updating Office, I looked at the Account Information page and under “Product Information” there was a link displaying:

“Learn why you’re only receiving security updates”

Sounded interesting, so I clicked on the link, and what I read was even more interesting; namely:

    ——————–
If you see a message under the Product Information section for your Office app that says you’re only receiving security updates, this is because Office is installed on a device running Windows 7.

Important: Support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020. Learn more

To receive new features for Office, instead of only security updates, you need to move to a supported operating system. We recommend that you move to Windows 10.
    ——————–

What’s odd, in my mind, is that MS have stopped issuing security updates for Windows 7 (except for those with an ESU licence, or using abbodi86’s “Standalone installer script for Windows 7 ESU”), but they’re still providing security updates – but not new features – for Office 365.

You’ve paid for Office 365 and MS refuse to provide updates to the product unless you pay more for a new OS, hmm…

      cheers, Paul

This is as announced, expected and previously discussed here:

Office 365 ProPlus to get support on Windows 7 after January 14, 2020

      Windows 11 Pro version 22H2 build 22621.1778 + Microsoft 365 + Edge

Thanks, I hadn’t seen those two references.

Explains why I saw what I did, although I still find it rather odd that MS offer Office security support for three years after the end of Windows 7 support.

Not to worry – I’ll accept it and be thankful for small mercies.

…after the end of Windows 7 mainstream or extended support? Or O365 application feature support of Windows 7?

Very different things, those. And I’m starting to think that Microsoft might be confusing things further on purpose.
