While doing some Winter cleaning, I came across my old HP G60-440US laptop. It has a working WIN7 64-bit install. I have gone down many rabbit holes trying to find the best way to bring Windows up to date. I need the definitive current procedure to proceed. I have already manually disabled CEIP, Windows Update, and telemetry as per AKB2000012. I have seen many conflicting articles about SSUs, rollups, etc. How should I proceed?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

ManagerThere are two Topics where I helped people update Win7 on this site. The method I used requires following the instructions as the stated sequence because there are prerequisites along the way. Also, it is only up to date as of the date of the thread. You can take up the updating from the last update that was done, but read through and be sure you have the prerequsitess already installed.
Perhaps these will help you with your update.https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/asking-for-a-favor-about-updating-my-win-7/#post-1924529
Once you get the update done, there is a way to keep updating Win7 past EOL. You will probably need to ask some questions about this.

AskWoody PlusThank you for the quick advice! These two links seem to be the same or am I missing something? Is this the other link? https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/asking-for-a-favor-about-updating-my-win-7/?view=all#post-1913923. At first glance, it seems to be more detailed.

hmm..I’d scratch that, as the HP G60 440 is long in the tooth and will likely run into driver signing issues using ESUb (if the OP intends to use online once completely updated to Win7 EoS)
There is the option to upgrade that Win7 to W10 once updated for safer online use later on. Is the win7 Home premium or Pro edition?See: https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/whats-the-best-way-to-upgrade-from-windows-7-to-windows-10/#post-2507189 (onwards to upgrade to W10 for free should you wish to)

AskWoody PlusThank you for your advice on ESUb. I should have mentioned it is Windows 7 Pro edition. It already has all updates up to to 9/30/2014. Much to my surprise, Microsoft Security Essentials is still updating. I have no intention of upgrading this laptop to 10. I already have a desktop and another laptop with 10. Thanks though.
