    KB4586085 for Windows 8.1 is not on the Master Patch List. KB4586085 is Security & Monthly Rollup. Is it safe to install?

    The patch list shows updates released this month are “defer” and that one was released on the 6th, so I’d defer.

    KB4586085 is the 2020-11 .NET Rollup (contains patches for .NET 4.6-4.7.2. and .NET 4.8), not the 2020-11 Sueurity & Quality Monthly Rollup for Win8.1

    I was also just looking in to this issue and I believe that the .NET updates (both 4586084 and 4586085) do not need to be installed if you are installing the 2020-11 Cumulative update (4586845). I am rolling out 4586845 this week and will try and remember to reply to this thread again if the systems stop requesting 4586084 and 4586085 after 4586845 is installed.

    As PKCano said above, the .NET updates and the 8.1 Rollup are two different things. Installing the 8.1 Rollup doesn’t mean you automatically get the .NET update with it.

    I see your point, but the Microsoft site for these KB’s does say:
    Important
    
    This update is included in the Security and Quality Rollup that’s dated November 10, 2020. Parts of this update were previously released in the rollup that’s dated October 13, 2020.

      MS added two older .NET patches (Oct’s) to the Nov .NET Rollup.
      The only new patching was for .NET 4.6-4.7.2 and .NET 4.8
      For information see #2311043 to compare with what they did with Win7.
      
      .NET patches are not included in the 2020-11 Security and Quality Monthly Rollup for Win8.1.

      @bhtmike – I think perhaps the source of your confusion is the statement “This update is included in the Security and Quality Rollup …” That’s a quote from a KB article about .NET, so in that context it’s referring to a .NET security and quality rollup. It is not referring to the Win 8.1 Security and Quality rollup.
      
      Generally the Rollups for .NET and for Win 8.1 are exclusive of one another; neither one includes the other.
