I’m trying to hide Windows 8 updates I don’t want but when I right click on the update, there’s no hide on the menu like there was in Windows 7. Is there some other way to hide Windows 8 updates? I didn’t find an answer on this forum.:(
    Thanks,
    Vicki

      Vicki,

Welcome to the Lounge as a new poster!

Are you running Windows Update from the desktop or Start Menu?

Try running it from the desktop as it seems to be working there for me but then again I have StartIsBack running.

I am doing this on my husband’s laptop. I opened Windows Update from the desktop from Control Panel. I also tried from Settings. I think the laptop has Windows 8.1. I would have thought it worked the same as Windows 7 but after I selected the update I don’t want to see again, the right click menu isn’t the same as Windows 7 and there is no “hide”. I just don’t know if there’s another way to hide the updates that I don’t want. It’s a problem as the list keeps growing and my husband isn’t computer literate so I have to take care of these things. If you know of another way to hide them, let me know otherwise I guess there’s nothing I can do. I hate Windows. They don’t do a very good job when it comes to stuff like this. I should be able to pick and choose updates I want and either delete or hide the ones I don’t want. It’s irritating.
        Thanks for your help.

      Vicki,

I just disabled StartIsBack and tested on std Win 8.1. If you got to the desktop, right-click the start icon, select Control Panel then Windows Update you can hide updates with a right click. HTH

You can use the shift button to check all of them, and then, As RetiredGeek said, right click to hide the lot all at once. Yes and welcome to the Lounge.

I’m running 8.1 and right clicking on an update has the hide option like in RG’s attachment above. Perhaps you could attach a screenshot of what you get when you right click.

      Vicki,

Ok, there are two possibilities that I can think of that might be causing your problem.

      1. I’m running Win 8.1 Pro if you have 8.1 Standard it may not allow you to hide updates.
You can check your OS version via File Explorer -> Right-Click on Computer (in left hand pane) -> Select Properties
      41312-Win81pro
      2. I’m running an Administrator account if you are using a Standard User account this could also possibly preclude you being able to hide updates.

I have a Standard account and have had no problems hiding updates, off out now but will have another look in a few hours.

As I said I am running Windows 8.1 Standard and just now I changed my wife’s account to standard user account and signed into her account and was still able to right click to hide and restore updates. What next guys.
If the arrow is on the check box you get no result with the right click,
I know you probably know that but just worth a mention……….. Also another long shot, but is you husband’s laptop set up with left click for left hand operation.
