Having seen the the new (?) windows backup can backup settings, apps, credentials and files to OneDrive I thought I’d give it a go.  Being able to transfer, or at least restore, my apps and settings to a new computer seemed excellent.  But Microsoft’s documentation seems a bit sketchy.  So a few questions arise:

    1. Does Windows Backup run in the background and do incremental backups, or do I need to remember to do it again from time to time.
    2. If I run it again, does it do an incremental backup the next time or start from scratch)?  I’ve got nearly 300GB of apps and files, so I don’t want to back them up each time, or fill up my Onedrive with a second backup.
    3. After doing a backup of settings, apps and credentials I got the message “We can’t backup your folders in Onedrive, because you’re syncing them in another cloud storage.  Please turn off the cloud service that you’re syncing your folders with and try again.”  I use Dropbox normally to keep file changes, and have got iCloud and Google Drive connected though I don’t use them regularly.  It seems like I can’t use Windows Backup to do a secondary backup.  Is this right?
    4. I’d quite like a secondary backup in the cloud.  Is there a better way of backing up to Onedrive, as I’ve got decent storage as part of Microsoft 365?

Keep in mind it really isn’t “windows backup”.  It’s “Migration to a new pc”.

Thanks Susan, and apologies for the very late reply. You’re right, calling it Windows back up seems to be quite misleading. At least I’ll have an easy way to migrate to another PC when eventually I pluck up the courage to move to Windows 11.
