Calling W10 Home users ‘beta testers’ has become rather widespread… not just on this site, but others. It appears that Microsoft is designating their ‘Slow Ring’ as the ‘Beta Channel’, and cushioning it from the release that Home users get with the Release Preview Ring (now renamed to Release Preview Channel)… perhaps hoping that by being able to point to an actual Beta Channel, quite distinctly separate from what is actually released to Home users, that they can modify the justified criticisms of using Home and Pro users to further refine their product before it is adopted in the Enterprise environment?

If the quality of the product they release to Home users remains as buggy as it has been, it doesn’t really change the criticism… but by also altering the Rings’ ‘flighting’ to be based on quality, rather than timing, perhaps they hope to blunt that criticism as well.

If the change isn’t just being implemented for looks, further muddling terminology to confuse and continue to wrest control from end users, but results in actual change to the quality of what is released, I’m all for it.
