I just built a new Windows 2012 R2 server on my VMWare environment.  I activated the OS successfully and started getting the base OS setup and updated. I pulled some initial updates from the Microsoft Update Servers prior to joining it to my domain and changing to my local WSUS server.  After I rebooted after loading those initial windows updates, the Windows Update will not work due to the “Windows Update can’t check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your PC.”  Needless to day, rebooting doesn’t work and also the View Update History is blank.  I can’t manually install any windows update from the command line, even Powershell 5, etc.  I have been able to get a list of the updates installed using “(Get-HotFix | Sort-Object -Property InstalledOn)” with Powershell.  This is the second server this has happened to in the last couple of weeks, but I’ve never had this issue with other servers before, regardless of version.  Any ideas?
