I am hoping someone can provide some info on this.

We have always has Windows Update access and notifications disabled via our RMM tool and this has always worked well in the past. After the update to Wind10 21H2, we are noticing that people are regularly receiving a task tray notification regarding pending updates. Obviously, they cant access the Windows update interface when they try, so this causing some annoyance.

Does anyone know what changed with the Windows Update notifications in 21H2 or where that can be disabled? A registry change perhaps?

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

There’s an option to disable it in Group Policy.

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Display options for update notifications

      The available options are:

0 – Use the default Windows Update notifications

1 – Turn off all notifications, excluding restart warnings

2 – Turn off all notifications, including restart warnings

      The equivalent registry setting is:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

"UpdateNotificationLevel"=dword:00000000 (one of the above values)

BTW, I upgraded to 21H2 last month and this setting does still exist so it shouldn’t have stopped working for you (maybe some other program changed it?)
